Job Description
ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Civil Engineer & Land Surveyor to join our construction team. As a Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor you will play a critical role in the company’s design and construction of developments in the Sheridan area.
Overarching Goals: Provide the steps and guidance for the various jobs
Develop and review site plans, and coordinate closely with project supervisors, survey crew, and construction leads to ensure alignment with project goals.
Bring strong leadership and clarity to project workflows—motivating crews with a well-informed and confident approach to land development and infrastructure layout.
Lead and oversee surveying activities and engineering preparations to ensure accuracy, compliance, and quality throughout each phase of the build.
Read and interpret site plans, legal descriptions, topographic maps, and engineering drawings to determine layout, grading, and construction requirements.
Collaborate with other trades and crews to complete site work, infrastructure, and homes efficiently and in accordance with design and safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Reliable
Consistently dependable with prompt follow-through on assigned tasks. Maintains high standards of professionalism and delivers quality work on time.
Plan Reading
Able to read, interpret, and apply project plans, site layouts, and technical specifications accurately.
Ensures all surveying and engineering tasks align with blueprints, site constraints, and regulatory requirements..
Preparing, Pouring, and Finishing
Proficient in conducting field surveys using GPS, total stations, and other tools to establish accurate boundaries, elevations, and site conditions. Prepares the groundwork for successful project execution with precise measurements and layout markings.
Detail Oriented
Maintains a strong focus on accuracy and quality across all aspects of design, planning, and field verification.
Carefully reviews and double-checks work to ensure reliable outcomes and compliance with engineering standards.
Take responsibility and strive for high-quality results.
Collaboration
Work effectively alongside field crews, contractors, and project managers to ensure accurate site development and construction execution.
Maintain clear and consistent communication with all team members, both in the office and on the jobsite, to support project alignment and timely progress.
Demonstrate a willingness to learn and adopt the StoneMill process for surveying and engineering—ensuring each project meets expectations in precision, quality, and design integrity.
Reliability is essential throughout the planning and construction process to ensure accuracy in measurements, adherence to legal boundaries, and to support cost-effective, efficient operations for the business.
If necessary one must be available to occasionally work on Fridays or Saturdays.
Experience
4+ years’ prior experience in civil engineering and land surveying. Must be authorized for this position before applying.

Personal tools and equipment stored in your company vehicle (such as field tablet or notebook, measuring tape, hand level, marking tools, etc.)
Any preferred surveying accessories or gear that support your workflow and daily efficiency

After 6 months employment:

Expected Compensation
$100,000 - $175,000/annual salary + cash awards (quarterly profit sharing) + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on individual factors including experience, skills, resources and knowledge. The total compensation package may also include other elements dependent on the situation and details will be provided if you receive an offer of employment.
